Luke and Adam Talk About Preparing for the Housebuilders Challenge

Later this year, five members of the Kaboodle Senior Leadership Team will be hiking for 10 hours across the Black Mountains to raise money for the fantastic Youth Adventure Trust as part of the Housebuilders Challenge 2024.

As the team start to get ready for this awesome feat, we thought we’d take some time to speak to our Business Development Managers Luke Smallman and Adam Morris about how the training is going and how they are feeling about the event.

Have you ever done a challenge like this before?

Adam: No, this is my first one.

Luke: I took part in this challenge last year, walking up in Eryri. It was very rewarding.

What's the longest/ highest walk you’ve ever done?

Adam: I spent three days and two nights climbing in and around Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

Luke: I walked to Everest Base Camp. It took around two weeks to get up and down again. We didn’t cover a huge distances each day, but the altitude prevents you going much faster.

Do you do any sports/ fitness in your spare time?

Adam: I have recently been lured into the world of CrossFit and train six times a week. I also like to “enjoy” a round of golf.

Luke: Just one or two! I still play football (...I have recently crossed the limit, so am officially a veteran), box twice a week, play golf wherever/whenever possible and go to the gym. I also have a dog who insists on at least five miles of walking a day.

How are you training for the House Builders Challenge?

Adam: I have just completed my first Hyrox event, with at least another one to do this year. I have a couple of 10k’s booked up and I’m in the ballot for the 2025 London Marathon, so plenty of things to keep me active.

Luke: I I think the monthly physio this year will be my big thing, alongside ramping up duration/intensity in the coming weeks.

What do you think will be the hardest part?

Adam: Spending the day with Glenn and the weather if it’s too hot or wet!

Luke: If the forecast for the day is bad, then I imagine that’ll be a major obstacle, as the rain early on last year soaked my boots through. I’ve committed to buying some better boots this year – anyone who saw my feet last year will already know why!

What are you looking forward to the most?

Adam: Raising funds for the Youth Adventure Trust and spending time with the team.

Luke: It's a great team exercise and we are raising money for a fantastic cause.

Anything else you want to say?

Adam: Bring it on!

Luke: See you up there!
