The Importance of Training our Nationwide Installers In-House
In an industry where there is a huge skill shortage, Kaboodle have been leading the way with our Appliance Installers trainee and apprenticeship programmes for several years now.
And since opening our North and Southwest depots, we have trained all 17 of our directly employed installers in these regions.
Every one of our Installers at our Leeds, Highbridge and Plymouth depots began with Kaboodle as trainee installers, with no installation experience.
They all followed our in-house, earn while you learn training programme, and now, five of these installers are gas qualified, two are LPG qualified, one is the supervisor of our Southwest region, and the remaining are either qualified installers or trainees working towards that status.
Kaboodle are now looking at extending their industry-first White Goods Installer Apprenticeships to these regions, with the hope to tackle the skill shortage across the nation and train the appliance installers of the future.
In a recent interview with KBB Magazine, Kaboodle MD Matt Pitt said: “We are facing a huge problem. Any KBB business providing an installation service has got to take responsibility by offering apprenticeships and creating an environment that young people want to work in.
“I know that some of the smaller companies don’t want to invest money in training, only to lose the apprentice to a competitor when they’ve finished their apprenticeship.
“I kind of get that, but it’s a very short-sighted view because, if everybody takes on apprentices, everybody wins – regardless of if you lose your apprentice to a competitor, because you’ll find it a lot easier to recruit a qualified installer later because the industry is collectively putting more installers into the workplace.”
